I am quite glad that I went to NY consulate to get my passport renewed. I handed it in 11AM on Tuesday and I picked up old and new passports on Wednesday at 4PM.

I'm sorry to react so strongly, also... It's important to remember that being there with the right light at the right time is what matters. Even if you've just got a drebel with the 18-55 or a d?0 with the 18-70, using the lenses at their strong points will make nice 11x14's or maybe even 16x20's depending on your taste for putting nose grease on your prints. ;)

I am also interested in this topic. My wife is working curently using OPT. But, she is waiting for EAD also. So, once 485 EAD comes, she will be in similar situation.
Lawyer has suggested using 485 EAD once it comes.
Anyway, for travelling, AP has to be used. Once you travel on AP and come back, you cannot continue working using OPT. You have to use 485 EAD. So, it is better to switch to 485 EAD to avoid confusion.
I am planning to keep her on OPT till Dec 31. It will make our tax filing easier next year. From January, she can switch to 485 EAD and pay social security tax.
Let me know if you can some concrete info on this.

My H1b is getting over by Jan 2008. My I-140 approved and I have filed my I-485 in July 2nd 2007. I contacted my company law firm and one of the top law firm about 3 year extension. Here is the answer
Attorney from company law firm:- Since you have applied for I-485 you will not be eligible for 3 year or one year extension. The only stage when you can apply for 3 year extension is when your I-140 is approved and the PD is not current. Since there was a time the PD was current and you applied for I-485, you will not be eligible for 3 year extension. Even if you apply you will get rejected.
Then I contacted the other law firm mentioning about the above law firm comments and here is the reply.

Per Murthy EAD will be ganted only for one year if I-140 has not yet approved.

My GC was filed by Chugh firm and I did not face any problems so far. I left my GC sponsoring company as well and still continuing with them for AC21 and other issues. In general, you have to carefully verify the data in the application that the firm feel up but that is applicable for any law firm you choose.

Add some time period between each of these. The cumulative time that will take will be a few years (probably over a decade). :(

1. You should be 100% confident that it is not your attorney who screwed up
2. Be able to convince anyone in 10 minutes that you filed within the timeline with evidence of receipt numbers, etc. The evidence is what counts.
