After he received the iPad2, he scrambled around his house looking for other things to return, with a same stickie note attached.

You must not be a fan of our physical universe then.
There is a substantial difference between real 3D and fake 3D. Real 3D is what you see around yourself everyday where depth actually exists. Fake 3D is the rubbish that the movie and electronic industry would like us to pay money for by simulating real 3D on a 2D display. It simply does not work. I don't get headaches from fake 3D but I do get very annoyed at it because I can see that it is fake 3D and it just looks wrong. The only place where I think that fake 3D stands a chance is on an enormous screen like that at an IMAX where you cannot see real 3D at the same time as you are staring at the screen.

FYI...anyone that is considering getting the in-store BT/AP module...
The tech on the phone told me that the G5 Powermac module will NOT work in the Mac Pro case...as the internals have been redesigned (power supply at the top, not bottom, new motherboard, etc.)
Also, seems the SATA interface is the newer "II" standard with twice the throughput, but it IS backwards compatible with SATA-I drives :D

Apple is trying to give us a clue. It could read a message for those that want to crack the code. Perhaps the third letter of every product or something. Hidden messages would be a cool idea.

Here in Brazil we have high taxes. Taxes are high and public services are of poor quality. The cost of labor is quite high, due to all the labor bureaucracy that punishes both employers and employees. The purpose of mounting the iPads here in Brazil is that they would not be able to pay some import taxes and enjoy some tax incentives that the Brazilian government grants to companies that assemble their products in national territory. Furthermore, we live in a fake democracy, in which the State is only concerned with lining their own pockets, leaving the needs of the Brazilian people in the last plan. That since 1500.
Well, speak for yourself, because I beg to disagree by a LONG shot. Brazil has one of the cleanest and most modern democracies in this world, with flawless election systems and an absolutely open press and media, even IF people prefer to choose the "wrong" candidates.
Despite all problems that may exist in certain areas, no Brazilian needs to accept this sort of inferiority complex anymore, especially considering the more than visible evolution of the country when compared to the 80s and 90s. We are no longer the "nation of the future"; so it's more than high time that Brazilians should understand that as much as any foreigner does.

The amount of crap in this thread is amazing:
1) Flash could never be a normal 'App' because it has to operate as a plugin for Safari since it's not a stand alone product on its own. For this reason, it would at the very least HAVE to be co-developed by Apple and included in a software update.
Quite amazing is also the amount of misinformation.
Apparently you have not heard of AIR (Adobe Integrated Runtime). It is an instance of the Flash player that has more functionality and runs outside of the browser.
http://www.adobe.com/products/air/
Of course if you mean in the context of the iPhone only, then the above does not apply.

But I would say that it won't be me needing that particular feature...

You probably would. I think Spanish is the world's 2nd-most spoken language. Well, don't know about Chinese... Besides, you are being America-centric here, there are markets outside the US, you know, like Spain. Reference works like Dictionaries and Thesauruses will probably be bestsellers for such a device. If I go somewhere, I could load it with a dictionary for the national language for the country, say English-Spanish. My Spanish is not good, so if it could pronounce it for me, all the better. And I know of English speakers who can't read or spell very well either. My brother's dyslexic, and yet also a programmer. The Spanish were the first to discover and explore America, you know (though 500 years after the Vikings). In Canada they're split between English and French. They're like Americans without the attitude or penchant for invading other countries.

Why such a great camera on the iphone and such loser ones on the ipad?
iPhones are actually more expensive to make than iPads. Thats why you are forced to make a contract with a carrier because when you first get your phone, the carriers are loosing money. It takes two whole months for the carriers to make back all the money they spent on an iPhone.
That is why the iPhone can be cheaper and have better specs than an iPad could ever have. That is why I believe that the iPhone is actually Apples most advanced technology!

Heh, yeah. I especially love all the posts about how it was a huge mistake for Apple to get into the mp3 player market (that the iPod would die a quick death and be a colossal failure).
I think that is the problem when we buy so much into the speculation and hype - Apple releases something that, on the surface, is boring (i.e. "WTF?!?!?!? It's just an MP3 player and not some revolutionary new device?!!?!?!?"), but which has a much greater chance of success than some of the more out there stuff we want them to do. As a former Newton user, for example, I would be ecstatic if Apple did release a Newton 3000 or something, but I also realize that there is a good reason they aren't doing that - there still just doesn't seem to be a widespread market for PDA's at this point. So an MP3 player might be boring, but it turned out to be a very smart move for Apple.
That just say to you how important an amazing Steve Jobs is. The man has the talent to foresees what will be a hit and what won't be.
We are luck to have him and Apple together. I remember when he was not behind Apple and how things were bad. I am glad he is there now.
The truth is what seems to be the logical thing for us might not be for him, so, I rather have him tell me that.
I hope he will stay at Apple for long, long time.

So you think that Adobe is bad because CS3 does not run on Snow Leopard?
Think again.
CS3 has been published a long while ago, and Snow Leopard is brand new. A lot of system libraries have changed. I do not expect Windows 3.1 software to run correctly on Windows 7 either.
Are there any Mac developers out there?
Apple must have caused software vendors to rewrite their software a gazillion times:
- they switched from the 68K to the PowerPC to Intel
- they switched from OS9 to Carbon to Cocoa
- for Snow Leopard, if you want to run as a 64-bit app, you have to switch to the Cocoa libraries, and much of Carbon is deprecated.
Apples next OS will most likely drop Carbon altogether. I have written programs for the Mac for a long time now, and I have spent 75% of my productivity just rewriting my programs over and over again to adopt them to Apple's library changes.
Adobe is big, but I bet that many of their Mac programmers are busy just following Apple as they try to leave software vendors in the dust because they switch system libraries and CPUs at will. Did Microsoft ever do this? Yes, partly - they went from 16 to 32 to 64 bits. But I can still run the Reversi game that came with Windows 1.03 on Windows 7!
And you Java lovers - go to the Sun web site and install Java. Just try. I have not seen complaints that this is impossible.
This is not a technical issue. Every skilled team of programmers can make their software run on another platform. This is a battle of lawyers. Apple does not permit any bytecode execution engine (such as the Java and ActionScript VMs) to run on the iPhone. Period.

In other words, what we saw tonight was nowhere near the final form of the application.
This statement has me a bit puzzled. FCP is supposed to be out in around 2 months. Are they going to rush the rest into FCP in this amount of time, or get the basics in there, then drag onto multiple updates? Would be a shame to not have it fully ready for release. I'm a little skeptical if the rest will be ready by June. Nothing stinks worst than having a program that's touted a super program, to find out it wasn't ready for release. Just hope apple doesn't rush this one out the door. It looks to put the competition to shame if it can deliver.

;) I agree that it's crazy to pay full price. Everyone has to know someone in college or who can at least get an educational discount. I mean of several hundred bucks, make a friend. Otherwise, yes, simply 5-10 minutes on the net can yield you the full CS Suite and all the major plug ins. I think the total available in that time is about $3,500.
$3,500?
No.
Make that close to $1,500. Don't exaggerate. Premium packages cost a bit more but Standards are a bit cheaper. You always have the option of buying just ONE Adobe application if you don't need the rest of the stuff. Or buy them one at a time. Or buy Standard for Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign (for the print/publishing industry), for instance.

I checked out the 3DS at a Target and felt the 3D effect was cheesy. It reminded me of a magic eye effect, or a hologram baseball card. I did read about the "sweet spot", but that seems really tedious to have to keep a handheld at just the right angle at all times.
Those kiosks are low so that kids can play with them - much harder for adults to use it.
I got to try one out not on a display and it was great - especially the AR games are lots of fun...
You can turn the 3D off and the graphics and screen quality are still great.

That's shameful, I thought we were better than that.
I was just coming on to see what was up with that. Did someone from here really send in a tip? What good does that do? Its not like Apple is going to go on MacRumors and say "Well there is a rumor we are going to release, lets just do it".....Stupid!
