I wonder how this will affect the future of iPhone release dates? i.e. next year and in the future, will iPhones be released in the fall or go back to their usual June/July release? I am eligible for an upgrade March of next year, so I don't want to upgrade to the iPhone 5 in March if a newer iPhone is going to be released a couple months later.

matte screen option or fail.
Honestly with the advent of Thunderbolt external connections and a matte screen I'd sell my 2009 MacPro and pick up one of these.
Before you throw spears at me I'm fine that people like the glossy and you have your option.

12Mbps? you sure you didn't mean 1.5GBs?
Thanks for pointing out the typo - I meant 12 Gbps.

No, I wasn't even discussing what SHOULD BE included. I was discussing what was stated regarding the current situation of consoles and HD. What aren't you understanding?
My mistake, sorry. I got mixed-up between your replies to kevin.rivers, who replied to bigmc6000...
Really depends on yoru defintion of success. Popularity wise it's been successful (360 is helped solely by the fact it's the only HD player out there right now)
Maybe he meant "the only high-def console" on the market right now with the PS3 still a few months away?

Volume switch issue? Please enlighten me, I don't know what you refer to.
I believe he's talking about them moving the volume buttons for the Verizon iPhone. So a case for the AT&T iPhone won't fit the Verizon iPhone.

Ok a couple of things
Assume Apple and Amazon have the same deals with the record labels which is most likely the case.
Let's rough estimate that for every $0.99 song sold by Apple or Amazon then 69 cents go to the label. Therefore Amazon does not lose money on the sale but maybe a tiny fraction of a cent on infrastructure and credit card processing.
If Amazon sold the songs for $0.68 then that would be considered "dumping" by the FTC and WTO, and that is an illegal action, especially if it was intended to gain market share.
Competition is good - and then results benefit the consumer.
If Amazon has an incredible increase of market share by selling low, they either have to raise prices eventually or renege their contracts with the labels making music downloads cheaper. If they are successful at lowering prices then Apple will do the same, and we all benefit. ;)

Mine is definitely thicker than my black one. One of them (bought two today) is actually crooked.... when I lay it down on a flat surface it doesn't lay down completely... there is a "wobble" to it.. wonder if the case is warped.

Yeah, if you read the whole patent (http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1902), you'll notice that it makes mention of "force sensors" underneath the display to tell if it is a "light" or "hard" touch. A finger being waved above an object doesn't have force to sense, and in looking at the more tablet-oriented part of the patent, you can see that a hand is clearly holding the object (http://images.appleinsider.com/patent-ipod-touch19.gif). The document also makes several references to the input devices appearing or disappearing based on the proximity of a finger.
It would seem that the main purpose of this is to make overlays like this possible:

This isn't a "none-touch" patent.

Corporations are evil.
Apple is evil, so is samsung. Why anyone would have an emotional yearning for one company above another is beyond me, both companies would gladly take all your money for nothing if you let them.
Let them duke is out, neither is right.
There you go, making sense. That isn't tolerated around here. :D

Entitlement? No offense as many feel the same way. I just don't understand how some can realistically expect such a product/service to be free for how new it is.
Seriously, if you can't afford the 20 bucks, should you have anything other than a trac phone?

By that same vein, what has Apple ever developed that's anything close to a OS ? And no, Mac OS X, a bunch of components bought/taken from the open source community doesn't count... it's just a Unix distribution with a GUI layer on top.
It's easy to discount anything going with that mentality. The fact is, Chrome OS is as much an undertaking as OS X was. It's more than just a "Web browser" since web browsers cannot be booted and don't provide graphical sub-systems, input management and process scheduling obviously.
(yes, I do realise Mac OS Classic existed).
And to answer your question directly : Android. ;)
Ahhh.... Google bought that. And given Android is based on open source, don't you think your argument on OSX is rather weak?

It was possible to use the previous 27" as an external display for a MacBook. Can't see any mention of that after a brief scan, and it's a deal-breaker for me. Anyone spot such a feature?

After the Month of Kernel Bugs, are you concerned about Mac OS X security?
No - 62%
See, that bugs me. Everyone should be concerned about security. I believe OS X's overriding security feature is obscurity, and once that situation changes I can see the OS falling over very quickly.
One of the weakest links in the chain is the user, and if the user is not concerned then you have a problem.
Dont get me wrong, I think OS X is great, but it just hasn't been "weathered" in the wild like Windows has. If OS X becomes a viable target then we're in for a bumpy ride.
OSX is based on FreeBSD, which has been around for an eternity and includes modules from even older Unixy stuff. There's paying attention, there's worrying, and then there's running around with your hair on fire digging for a bomb shelter with your bare hands. We're at the pay attention stage.
MOKB showed that the kernel can be a source of bugs and that OS design should incorporate this problem into the design. This doesn't mean panic or worry or take a pair of scissors to your broad-band connection, this means Apple has some things to fix. It also showed that wireless is inherently insecure and the problems with drivers can affect Windows, Mac OSX and Linux.
Again, MOKB isn't all that important, it's Apple's response to problems that really matters.
