The Beatles: Four guys who needed each other, because individually they were musical infants.
No, thanks.
I'm not going to pretend to be a huge fan, or even a fan. They were before my time, but I think that's a bit of a reach.
I mean, Imagine...not exactly a nursery rhyme.

And they're going implement this to good effect on a phone camera?
No. See my earlier reply to fertilised-egg, post #185.
I was querying the statement:
"You are limited by the focal length, which is dictated by the thickness of the device. There is no magic way around this."
I was under the impression that using a negative or positive element behind a lens was the 'magic way around' accommodating less-than-ideal focal lengths/registration distances.
So... if you weren't in fact limited by either the the focal length or thickness of the device wouldn't it be possible to employ a larger sensor and thus pacify all the people earlier in this thread would felt 8mp on the current sized sensor was a retrograde step?

To be honest, I'm from Germany and I would never ever pay an extra cent for a product manufactured in the US. The caption "Made in the USA" just suggests "Don't buy me, I'm going to suck". All these products I bought that were made in the US were overpriced and mostly of far worse manufacturing quality than comparable products from Asia or Europe. Just my experience, not that I hate Americans or anything, I like their ideas, creativity, inspiration and stuff, but the rest is better done by other people.
What about something made in Germany? ;)
Not sure people would jump the gun on an Audi R8 had it been made in Asia! :D

While many people are looking for Apple to integrate a radio tuner into the iPod it isn't going to happen.
I would prefer the option to grab a quick weather forecast, news headline or actually hear a song I don't own once in a while, but that's not the iPod way. The iPod is all about your content not someone else's.

How unlucky do I feel? I just spent a week in Chicago, and on Monday bought a 60Gb Ipod for myself and a 2Gb Ipod for the GF. I left the US on Tuesday afternoon. I knew I should've waited 'til Tuesday morning before buying..... Oh well, gotta smile..... I think.......

His approach is not the most mature. My guess is that he has a better job lined up and simply used his departure to get some notoriety. Grow up!

If you think about it, it's not all too surprising that some of these "professionals" are getting so worked up and sulky over this release. The notion that "pro editing" can belong to just about anyone, rather than an exclusive circle of elites, poses an existential crisis. Apple's re-thinking of editing is also a re-thinking of what it means to be "professional". The announcement sheds light on a future in which their "advanced", learned techniques are no longer advantageous. The "industry pros" are facing the plight of impending impotence. It's not something anyone would really openly admit, but I think they're feeling a bit naked, stripped of their status.
Who can blame them for being pissy?
Wonderful post! So the more "professional" editors we see getting "pissy" means the opposite of what one might think.
You mean i can't add unlimited tracks as i need to make my timelines look so complex that my clients quiver in the awesomeness of my brilliance.

I'm not sure if my macbook's shutdown apply to the ones being discussed, but I suppose that's my question. I received my macbook in early september, and within a week it started to freeze the screen intermittently, and after a few days became more and more frequent. BUT THEN it started giving me kernel panics often. Both issues built up until I was having to shut down my computer 7+ times in a day. These were all random occurrences with no links to running certain programs, etc. I sent it in to AppleCare and they replaced the HD (after I had already wiped it, reinstalled, and the problem started again). After a couple weeks of getting my serviced macbook back, the problem has started again from the start, starting slow and then happening 7+ times in a day. AppleCare has told me that there is nothing they can do until the problem becomes increasingly worse, to the point that they can reproduce the problem easily. This is very upsetting, since with the very consistent progression of these kernel panics (and freezes) will land right around my midterms....ANYONE have ANY suggestions here? I don't even know if this is in relation to the random shutdowns you're talking about... But I'm desperate here.
Call Apple consumer relations. I'm not sure of the exact phone number but I'm sure someone here has it handy ;) That kind of service is simply not acceptible!

No one is making you pay for CS 5.5. Just wait and buy CS6, CS7, etc as you normally would have.

I believe you are in the minority. I know many people who own Macs (either exclusively, or majority), and not a single one of them "tinkers" with their Apples. Also, it is a given that since the vast majority of games are released for PC only, there just isn't enough games to make an extensive Mac Gaming market. Lastly, motherboard makers (eg. A-Bit) make boards with BIOS features specifically designed for overclocking. I have seen Mac Overclocking, in consists of adding little resistors to the motherboard.
I am sure there are Mac Overclocker, Gamers, and Tinkerers, there just isn't enough (percentage wise) out of the market to cater to them.
I would venture to guess the a full 10% of the total computing market, consists of these hard core, overclocking, uber-geeks.
Another thing to consider: in the last 3-4 years, which of the Apple computer lines allow "Tinkering?" Only the PowerMacs, and PowerMac Servers. PowerBooks, iBooks, iMacs, iPods are all pretty much "Set it, and forget it" style computers.

Android Phone Specs are out pacing the Iphone. An 8 Megapixel camera, bigger screen and more memory will keep me buying.
The competition hasn't learned that a huge portion of actual customers don't buy cell phones based on these kinds of hardware specs. And there's not enough money (bottom-line profit) in catering to those fewer customers who do care.

I'm pretty sure that Flash wouldn't even work on an iPhone. It uses 100% CPU on my MBP and video still lags!
This is probably the reason that Apple doesn't even want to let Adobe make Flash, because they know they would fsck it up somehow.
And, since iPhones overheat, CPU usage at 100% for any length of time could cause the battery to explode!
